Musigny 1999 – Charm and strength

The year 1999 is recorded as one of the great years in Burgundy. The harvest was large but also of very good quality. After years of going through a closed phase, these wines are now showing more of their potential.

The best wines are very well balanced, with nicely interwoven tannins and ripe fruit still present. They are also exceptionally long-lived wines that will provide you with drinking pleasure for many years to come.

Two exceptional wines from this beautiful year are the 'Musigny' of Jacques Prieur (lot 1307) and that of Joseph Drouhin (lot 1309). If you are looking for a beautiful Pinot Noir for the festive table, you should definitely bid on these exquisite wines in our December auction.

“The 1999 Musigny Grand Cru has an opulent, fruit-driven bouquet that is more precocious than the 2002. Red cherries, strawberry and truffle, plus more mineralité than vintages from the 1990s, for sure. The palate is marked by a supple rounded texture, silky smoothness and wonderful purity and panache toward the effervescent finish. This is a more flamboyant Musigny from Drouhin, and it carries it off extremely well.” – 96/100, Neal Martin, Vinous
