Rare creations by Sami-Odi

Anyone who thinks of the Barossa Valley automatically thinks of Shiraz. It is as well the birthplace of some of Australia's most iconic wines. Just like in other famous wine regions, such as Burgundy, Piedmont and so on, we are seeing visionary producers emerging here who are fully committed to their own philosophy and approach. Fraser McKinley is undoubtedly one of them.

After gaining a lot of experience at Torbreck Vintners and The Standish Wine Company, two of Barossa Valley's leading producers, he started his own project in 2006. His goal: to bring to life a completely unique expression of different terroirs.

The fruit comes both from his own vineyards and from grapes he purchases from befriended winemakers who share the same philosophy and respect for terroir. Each plot is carefully selected and vinified separately to show the different faces of Australian Shiraz. For each of his cuvées, he ‘makes’ the wines, guided by the specific characteristics of the terroir and climatic conditions.

This is how he creates different cuvées: some are from specific plots in specific years, others are multi-vintage blends from different vintages or plots.
His philosophy is to make wines with as few additives as possible, such as acids and sulphites. The grapes are selected purely for phenolic ripeness, and all the techniques used in the vineyard and cellar serve the same purpose: pure quality. He himself describes his wines as Burgundian in character.

Although Fraser's wines are relatively unknown, a loyal following makes them increasingly difficult to obtain. International critics score his wines highly, praising them for their individuality and exceptional purity.
