Cayuse: Cult Wine from Washington
Cayuse Vineyards, located in Walla Walla Valley, Washington, is the prestigious project of French winemaker Christophe Baron. This winery is renowned worldwide for its biodynamically farmed vineyards and terroir-driven wines. The soil, filled with pebbles reminiscent of the Rhône, imparts a unique mineral character to the wines.
Two of its most sought-after wines are the Syrah 'Bionic Frog' and the Syrah 'Wallah Wallah Special'. The Bionic Frog 2012 is a complex, intensely concentrated Syrah with notes of black fruit, olive, and earthiness. This legendary wine has been awarded an impressive 99 points by Jeb Dunnuck of The Wine Advocate.
“While a lot of the 2012s came in near the bottom of the barrel score, that wasn't the case with the 2012 Syrah Bionic Frog and this beauty flirts with perfection. Inky colored and purple to the rim, it offers extraordinary notes of black fruits, wild mushrooms, smoked earth, and salty minerality. These all flow to a full-bodied, thrillingly concentrated, focused, structured, and lengthy 2012 that needs 4-5 years of cellaring, and will knock your socks off over the following 15 years or more.” – 99/100, Jeb Dunnuck
The 2017 Wallah Wallah Special #11 offers a unique expression of Syrah, with a refined interplay of spices, red and black fruit, and a beautiful balance between power and elegance. This vintage received an impressive score of 96 points from The Wine Advocate, and is only bottled in magnum.
These rare wines can be found in the upcoming auction under lot numbers 3870 and 3871.
Cheers!
